Juneau Ridge Race
Cope Park
June 26th 2022 (Sunday) 10:00AM
The race will start and finish in Cope Park, downtown Juneau. The route will take a quick loop through town by the Capitol before heading up to Basin Road and Perserverance Trail. Runners get then ascend to the summit of Mt. Juneau at mile 4 and 3500' up. From here the route traverses the spectacular Juneau Ridge for three miles and then descends into Granite Basin back onto Perserverance Trail at around mile 11. The final four miles is fast if you still have the legs and follows Perserverance back to Basin Road and return to Cope Park via The Flume. The total distance is approx. 15 miles with 5000' of total elevation gain. Finish times should generally range between 3 and 6 hours. It is not necessary to be able to run the ups in order to finish the race within 6 hours, but participants should be generally be comfortable with running on technical terrain. There will be three checkpoints along the course that will have light aid station supplies. Runners will be expected to carry a basic kit of gear for the race including a jacket, long sleeve shirt, emergency space blanket, hat, gloves, water and food. As race day approaches and we have a weather forecast there will be further communication on gear. The ascent up Mt. Juneau and the ridge will have cell phone coverage. Post race activities in Cope Park will include food featuring wood fired pizza by Forno Rosso and awards beginning at or soon after 3pm. Participation is currently limited to ages 18 and over on race day. Runners ages 16 or 17 may petition the race directors for entry. No participants under 16. (95 records)Bryan Hitchcock

Run 4 Rock LightraceVirtual
The Whale
March 20th 2022 (Sunday) 10:22PM
1M/5K Virtual Race fundraiser for Eldred Rock Lighthouse Preservation Association (ERLPA) You may run and submit your race time any day between March 13-20, 2022. This is our 4th Annual Light Race on the docks of downtown Juneau, an out and back course that follows the boardwalk from the Whale all the way up Thane past the Franklin Dock. This is a MOSTLY closed-to-vehicles course, (with the exception of the Whittier light and some parking lot pull-ins) that follows the boardwalk and sidewalks. We are choosing to run this course virtually again, so that more people will have a chance to run the race at their convenience due to the winter conditions possible. Because this is a virtual event and you have a week to participate, you are also eligible to run more than one distance, as long as you register and pay for each race. Your NAO cup age-group points will be counted for each distance. Some advice: The boardwalk and sidewalks have been snowy this year, so can be slippery or have areas of old gravel and black ice. Running cleats may be wise if there is any ice or packed snow. Although it may be harder to see where you are stepping unless you wear a headlamp, we encourage runners to race as it was originally intended, at night, to honor the Lightkeepers of Eldred Rock! It's also very beautiful to be at the whale and along the docks at night but please where reflective gear and a light so that cars can see you. (56 records)Susan York

Sweethearts Relay
Savikko Park
February 12th 2022 (Saturday) 10:00AM
The first race of the year is scheduled tomorrow and in true COVID fashion, there's a last-minute change of plans: race registration will be at the Sandy Beach shelter (where the marathon has registration and does refreshments). The one-mile course will also start and finish in that general area. There will be heart-shaped waffles, raspberries, coffee, and maybe even some water (but no Gatorade because, c'mon, nobody needs Gatorade after a mile). The weather looks to be lousy, BUT this is a great chance to set your 2022 benchmark and see how much faster you can run at the Glenn Frick one mile race on the Fourth of July or maybe see if you can hold your pace for the mile you run tomorrow at a 5K a few months down the road (I'd suggest the Cameron Clark 5K in May, but I might be biased). If you're not a runner, but think you might want to become one, this is also a good chance to walk/run a mile and see where you are for a starting point. You might surprise yourself and even if you don't, one of the wonderful things about running is that it's satisfying to see individual improvement, regardless of where you finish relative to others. Registration will just be all in-person at the race, starting at about 9:15. The race will start at 10 or a few minutes later to make sure we catch people who don't find out about the move to Sandy Beach until tomorrow morning. Hope to see a bunch of you there. It's going to be great getting back to running together. Oh, and feel free to wear a Valentine's Day costume if you're into that kind of thing. It makes for great pictures. We'll probably also have some bad love songs playing to add some gooey energy. Dan Robinson (29 records)Dan Robinson
