Magnificent Mendenhall Mudpuddle Meet
| University of Alaska Juneau campus, Auke Lake | Distance: 10 miles
Location: the University of Alaska Juneau campus at Auke Lake, south around the Loop Road
Start Time: 9:00 AM, meeting at 8:30
The third Magnificent Mendenhall Mudpuddle Meet, sponsored by the Juneau Parks Department, with the proceeds from pledges going to Special Olympics. A field of 78 ran. David Hayes won in 54:55, and two others broke the hour: Steve Davis in 55:32 and Glenn Frick, in the 40-and-over bracket, in 57:05.
The Empire first announced the race for a Saturday and corrected itself the following week: it "will be run on Sunday and not Saturday as reported in the Empire Wednesday".
FOUR TIMES ARE PRINTED A DIGIT SHORT in the paper. As set, they are Kenny Frick 1:05:4, Marc Greeley 1:24:0, Jerry Cagle 1:51:2 and Mark Stella 1:58:0. Every other time on the page carries two digits of seconds, so each is missing its last character. A zero has been put in the missing place, giving 1:05:40, 1:24:00, 1:51:20 and 1:58:00 - so the final digit of those four is the site's and not the Empire's. Each still sits where the paper placed the runner.
In the Girls 15-Years bracket the last two times are printed out of sequence, Karla Olsen 2:19:02 ahead of Salina Renninger 2:18:03, and are recorded as printed.
Two John Haywoods ran, one in Boys 15-Years and one in Men 40-And-Over. | DefaultRaceDirector Unassigned | 1979-05-06 09:00:00 | no | no | yes | Registration Form |
