The second annual Sperl-Gamble Memorial, in memory of Juneau-Douglas High School students killed in the Viet Nam War. Entry fees fund a scholarship for a JDHS graduate.
The memorial honors Donald Sperl, Charles Gamble Jr., Michael Stevens and Kirk Barkley. Rick Thibodeau won in 25:53, running side by side with Alan Graves before kicking to a fifty-foot lead in the last mile. Those two are the only finishers the Empire printed, and no time was given for Graves. Organized in part by Karl Schoeppe.
