Governor's Cup Fun Run Alaska State Capitol, JuneauThe 1987 Governor's Cup, three miles from in front of the state Capitol at 9 a.m. on Saturday 18 July - what the Empire called traditionally the biggest race of the summer season, with about 185 runners taking part. One hundred and seventy-eight finishers are recorded, in ten age and sex divisions. Rick Thibodeau won in 15.57, two seconds ahead of his brother Guy, the cross country coach at the University of Alaska-Anchorage. Jim Shine was third. Shelly James was the first woman in 19.04 from Susan Norvell. The Empire's overall-place column repeats four numbers across different divisions, and only one of them looks like a genuine tie - Judy Graves and Nick Johnson, both 109th on 31.46. Places 100 and 114 each carry two runners on different times. Place 116 carries Gregg Griffith of the men's 27-39 and Mark Griffith of the boys' 15-and-under on the identical 34.03; they are recorded as two people, because an adult and a child are not one entrant, but the coincidence is worth noting. Leslie Weaver's time is printed 20.36, which is faster than the runners either side of her and identical to Ed Speer's at 19th; it is stored as printed.DefaultRaceDirector Unassigned1987-07-18 09:00:00nonoyesRegistration Form
