May Day Mud Run Hospital Drive, Juneau to Fish Creek, Douglas IslandSeventh annual May Day Mud Run, and the biggest field the race had seen - 38 runners over roughly 7.9 miles from Hospital Drive, across the Gastineau Channel at low tide, to Fish Creek on Douglas Island. The distance can only be estimated, because each runner picks their own way across the channel through knee-deep seawater and mud. Won by Glenn Frick, 48, in 47:02 - his sixth run and his first win. "I was pretty confident this time when I didn't see a Thibodeau in the starting line," he said. Jerry Buckley, 44, was second in 47:21. Kathy O'Connell was first woman, eighth overall. NOTE ON ONE TIME: the article's prose gives Kathy O'Connell 51:21 while the printed results table gives 51:55. The table is followed here - 51:21 is the time of the two men immediately above her, which looks like a slip in the write-up. The rest of the field is as printed; genders were not published and are recorded only for the three runners the article identifies.DefaultRaceDirector Unassigned1987-05-02 00:00:00nonoyesRegistration Form
