Middle School Cross Country Meet
Angoon, Alaska
September 19th 1992 (Saturday) 10:00AM
The middle school cross country meet at Angoon on Saturday 19 September 1992, over a two-mile course. Eighty-two runners finished, in six races by grade and sex, from three schools: Floyd Dryden and Marie Drake, the two Juneau middle schools, and Angoon. Not a JTRR race and not on the Empire Cup calendar. The results are recorded here because the Juneau Empire recorded them, in its "running" column, which credits the compiling to Floyd Dryden eighth-grader Heidi Norskog - who also finished seventh in the 8th grade girls' race. Times were printed as minutes and seconds. Two of them end in :60 and are stored as the following minute, which keeps each finish order intact; both rows say so. Frank Maier Marathon
Sandy Beach, Savikko Park, Douglas
August 8th 1992 (Saturday) 8:00AM
Distance: 26.2 miles, 13.1 miles and 8 kilometers Location: Sandy Beach, Savikko Park, Douglas Start Time: 8:00 AM for the marathon, 9:00 AM for the half-marathon and 8K Race Director: Bob Deal Registration Fee: 5 dollars, or 6 for the half and 8K on the day Out and back on the Douglas Highway, the marathon turning at the top of a hill beyond the False Outer Point parking lot and the half-marathon between the Bonnie Brae subdivision and Fish Creek, with eight or nine aid stations. It remembers Frank Maier, a long-time Juneau runner with a penchant for distance events, who was killed in a crabbing accident in the winter of 1990-91. Certification by The Athletics Congress means the course can qualify runners for marathons with a time standard, Boston among them. It was measured twice by calibrated bicycle odometer and carries the standard 0.1 percent safety factor, so it is a little long. All three races counted toward the Empire Cup Runners Series, and a potluck followed at the Sandy Beach picnic shelter. (80 records)DefaultRaceDirector Unassigned

A half-kilometre and a one-kilometre run for boys and girls aged 14 and under, one of the 1992 Empire Cup series races.
