Savikko Park - Sandy Beach August 13th 2005 (Saturday) 9:00AM | This is the annual SERR fundraiser for the JDHS x-country team. The two-person teams can be any combination of Male/Male, Female/Female, or Male/Female. The race will be run in a loop traversing scenic old (but newly improved) Treadwell mine trails in south Douglas that's now the home course for the Crimson Bears. Times will be kept for both courses to determine individual Empire Cup points. Times will be combined to determine winning teams. You will not be required to carry packs, shovels, picks, lanterns, lunch, etc. so your time SHOULD be faster than the early day miners who traversed these trails. Mendenhall River School May 28th 2005 (Saturday) 9:00AM | 15th annual seacoast Relay five-person relay race features legs between 3.5 and 5.8 miles long between Mendenhall River School and the Eagle Beach Recreation Area. Road construction activities between Tee Harbor and Amalga Harbor will be postponed on race day. Sandy Beach May 21st 2005 (Saturday) 9:00AM | Experience a bit of Douglas' mining history as you race along the Ditch. Race starts at Sandy Beach. Run up to the Mt. Jumbo trailhead on 5th St. and then access the Treadwell Ditch trail about one-half mile up the Jumbo trail. The run follows the Treadwell Ditch trail to the snowmobile access trail above Blueberry Hill, and then turns down to a fast finish at the parking lot below the water tower. Runners 13-years-old or younger must run with a partner. Pre-register by May 20 at 5 p.m. at either Downtown or Valley Alaska Club. $5 to pre-register, $8 on race day.
