Description
|
Mini-marathon sponsored by Juneau Parks and Recreation. Two courses, both starting from the Mendenhall Glacier parking lot: 13 1/2 miles and 2 miles.
The two-mile race started at 8:00 AM and the 13 1/2 mile race at 8:30 AM, with registration half an hour before each. Entry was $1.
Note the distance: 13 1/2 miles, not the standard half marathon of 13.1. The notice says the courses "have been established", which in 1970s Juneau meant measured locally to whatever the road gave. It is recorded as printed rather than rounded.
One of the oldest events on this site - only the 1952 Douglas 2 mile and four CBJ Juneau Marathons run earlier.
SOURCE: a short notice headed "Run" in the Juneau Empire. No results were published in it and none are held here. |
