Location: the Douglas side of the bridge to the Douglas firehall
The annual Fourth of July race. Guy Thibodeau won in 9:26, leading what the Empire called "a pack of 85 other runners". Steve Schmitz, who had earlier set a course record of 9:22, was second in 9:29 with Art Rodriguez on his heels in 9:30. Susie Norvell was the fastest woman in 12:09, from Ann Boochever and Michelle Robitaille.
Eighty-one runners are named: the top three of each of eight age and sex divisions, and then a list headed "other runners and times". That is five short of the 86 the report implies, so a few finishers were not printed.
Robert Cesar appears in both parts of the list with two different times, 13:18 in Men up to 15 and 11:44 among the others. The divisional time is the one stored and his row records the other. |
