Juneau Marathon
Glacier Parking Lot, Mendenhall Valley, Juneau
July 30th 1983 (Saturday) 12:00AM
Distance: 26.2 miles, with a 13.1 mile half marathon Location: start at the Glacier Parking Lot The annual Juneau Marathon. Skip Carbin won the full in 3:05:55 and Glenn Frick the half in 1:16:34. Twenty-three of the twenty-five half marathoners are, so two are missing from the list below. DATE: the Monday 1 August report describes Saturday's race, which is 30 July. Two runners called David Wood finished a second apart and are distinguished only by their middle initials, as the Empire printed them. (38 records)DefaultRaceDirector Unassigned

Bunny Run
Super Bear to the Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau
April 2nd 1983 (Saturday) 12:00AM
Distance: 10 kilometres and 5 kilometres Location: the 5k ran from Super Bear to the Mendenhall Glacier; the 10k ran back to Super Bear The Bunny Run, held the day before Easter. Steve Schmitz won the 10k in 34:37 and Erik Menten the 5k in 18:37. The Empire printed each race in two columns that are each sorted on their own rather than running on from one to the other - the 10k's left column ends at 43:55 and its right column begins at 38:43. Finishers here are therefore listed in time order, which is how every results page on this site is ordered, and no finishing position is implied. (27 records)DefaultRaceDirector Unassigned

Sweetheart Relay
Douglas, Juneau
February 12th 1983 (Saturday) 12:00AM
Distance: 5 miles Location: Douglas THE FIRST Sweetheart Relay, run in the snow by eleven pairs. Glenn Frick and Sue Norvell had the fastest time at 32:11. That this was the first is confirmed from the other end: the 1993 running on this site is titled the 11th Annual, which counts back to 1983. ONLY TEAM TIMES WERE PUBLISHED - no individual legs. Team times here are added up from the rows rather than stored, so each pair's total sits on the first-named partner and the second carries no time. Every row says so. DATE: none is printed. 12 February is the Saturday before Valentine's Day 1983, which fell on the Monday. That is an inference. (22 records)DefaultRaceDirector Unassigned
